Trail Improvements at Timber Ridge Forest Preserve

Overview

After making safety improvements and installing trailside signage, the Forest Preserve District reopened a boardwalk and segment along the West Branch Regional Trail at Timber Ridge Forest Preserve. Trail users may now travel along the West Branch of the DuPage River from St. Charles Road south to a connection at DuPage County's regional Great Western Trail.

The District worked with engineers, product representatives and a contractor to accommodate a nonslip boardwalk surface for travel. The new boardwalk features powder-coated aluminum treads, which are especially safe after being coated by dew, ice or snow.

Project History

This segment is part of a new 1.2-mile multipurpose trail along the West Branch of the DuPage River, which opened in 2012.
